Caring for your bones with Homeopathy

More and more I am hearing about young people with degenerative bone disorders.  I have numerous friends, mostly young women in their 20s and 30s, who are suffering from the likes of osteopenia, osteoporosis, arthritis & degeneration of vertebrae.  There are conditions we would not normally expect to encounter until much later in life.

What is causing these conditions to occur in us so early?  Why are we crumbling from the inside out? Our skeleton is the internal scaffold that holds us upright.  We have a solid frame supporting us and as such we are able to determine our place in the world.  We are free to move, run or to stand in still reflection, firmly connected to the earth.

Modern lifestyles certainly have a role to play.  More and more pressure is being placed on us to succeed, to have certain things, to be a certain way.  The stress of this pressure can weigh on us over time until it is literally crushing us.

Diet and nutrition also are a key factor.  We have access to a wider variety of foods than previous generations however it is less nutritionally dense nowadays.  Processed foods and carbonated drinks (containing phosphoric acid) can actually cause you to excrete calcium and leads to poorer bone health.  Caffeine also has a detrimental effect on your bone density.  Studies have shown that you lose 6 milligrams of calcium for every 100 milligrams of caffeine ingested[1].  Salt, sugar and even some fruits and vegetables can leech calcium from your bones.  This can be a scary thought considering the volume of processed foods we consume on a daily basis.

Hormonal changes, such as those normally experienced in menopause, also have implications for bone health.  Our bone density peaks between the ages of 25 and 30 and begin to drop off after age 40.  Studies have also looked at different types of hormonal contraceptives: the pill, implants, injections etc. and determined that there is enough evidence to conclude that hormonal contraception can contribute to lower bone density[2].

So, what can we do to reduce and reverse bone deterioration?  Increasing your intake of bone-friendly foods such as dried apricots, figs, sesame seeds, nuts, eggs, leafy green vegetables and decreasing bone damaging foods will all help.

Homeopathy can also help to address issues of bone density by addressing the underlying causes of illness.  Constitutional treatment is holistic and bespoke to each person.  It will work to help you recover and rebuild.  There is no ‘set’ remedy for this as each one of us is an individual.  You can also work with tissue salts and other remedies to work on rebuilding the integrity of the bones.  If there has been depletion it may take time before strength is recovered, depending on the extent of it.

For anyone suffering from weakened bones who has experienced fractures, Arnica and Symphytum are your allies.  These remedies work specifically to reduce inflammation and heal the bone.  This has been studied clinically and has returned positive results for better and faster healing[3].

If you are suffering from a degenerative bone condition take control now to secure your future.
